Chiropractic care is often broken down into different phases: an initial corrective phase, and then a “wellness” or "maintenance” phase. Some patients may believe that once the symptoms have been taken care of there is no additional need for treatment. This has proven to not be the case as research has shown that degenerative changes begin after only 2weeks of immobilization. This “maintenance” phase of the treatment can be compared to something as simple as brushing your teeth or going to the dentist for cleanings and checkups. When there is a subluxation present in the spine the vertebrae above and below that point must work harder to compensate. This is why it is important that the spine is checked and adjusted where needed to prevent long term degenerative changes to the spine. When the spine is well-aligned, it is setting you up to live your best possible life.
